MVA and Quality of Life: A Mixed-Methods Study

A study of 158 participants in 14 countries found that living in MVA homes significantly boosted well-being (88%), physical health (80%), personal development (78%), with greater benefits after three years, reports of reduced stress, improved family relationships.

A Look at Maharishi Vedic Architecture and Quality of Life

Have you ever wondered how the design of your home can influence your mood, health, and overall sense of well-being? A recent mixed-methods study on Maharishi Vedic Architecture (MVA) suggests that it can make a big difference. Conducted by Fergusson and colleagues (2020), the research involved 158 participants across 14 countries, shedding light on how living in an MVA home might positively impact one’s quality of life.

What Is Maharishi Vedic Architecture?

Maharishi Vedic Architecture (MVA) is a design system rooted in ancient Vedic principles. It emphasizes harmony with natural laws through features like proper orientation, placement of rooms, and attention to proportion. The goal is to create living spaces that support health, happiness, and personal growth.

Key Findings

  • Significant Improvements in Well-Being: 88% of residents reported better overall well-being (Cohen’s d = 1.48).

  • Enhanced Physical Health: 80% of participants noted improvements in physical health (d = 1.06).

  • Greater Personal Development: 78% felt an increase in personal growth and self-awareness.

  • Longer Residence, Greater Benefits: Those who had lived in MVA homes for more than three years showed stronger positive outcomes across all areas (F = 2.02, p = .02).

Qualitative feedback further emphasized reduced stress, improved family relationships, and an increased sense of harmony in daily life.

Why Does It Matter?

These findings highlight the growing recognition of how built environments can support—or hinder—our physical and psychological health. MVA’s holistic design principles appear to foster an atmosphere where residents can thrive, suggesting that the way we structure our living spaces may be as important as nutrition or exercise when it comes to overall well-being.

Looking Ahead

While further research is always beneficial, the current evidence is compelling. If you’re curious about how your surroundings might shape your life, this study could inspire you to explore design principles that align with nature and promote harmony.
